“What a joy it was to have brilliant Courtlye Musick perform for us at BRMC. To hear the wonderful melodies and songs of Tudor England played so expertly on reproduction period instruments was extraordinary.
The quartet of accomplished musicians introduced us to a variety of 500 year-old instruments, including viols, crumhorns, pipes, tabors, shawns and sackbuts.
Using a range of courtly love songs, music for pageants, entertainments and instrumental music from across Europe, the group traced Henry VIII’s life against the backdrop of the story of Henry's flagship Mary Rose, while dressed in Tudor costume.
One instrument the group presented was a replica of a douçaine, an instrument first discovered on the wreck of the Mary Rose after it was raised in 1982.
An truly uplifting evening, which captivated everyone from start to finish.”
